The protection of patents and utility models in Turkey is regulated by the Industrial Property Law No. 6769, which entered into force on January 10th, 2017. Turkey is also party to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) as of January 1996 and The European Patent Convention (EPC) as of November 1, 2000.
After the implementation of the Industrial Property Law No. 6769, the following provisions have been included:

- Patentability criteria (novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability)
- Patent protection for pharmaceuticals and their production methods,
- Publication of applications and opposition by third parties
